On April 2, Microsoft announced that it has partnered with many leading semiconductor companies to expand its Azure cloud computing platform. The large technology giant is working with Microchip, NXP, Qualcomm, Renesas and STMicroelectronics to develop embedded development kits for Azure's real-time operating system (RTOS).
 
Why Microsoft is working with component manufacturers
 
At present, Amazon dominates the US cloud computing field with a 33% market share. Microsoft is currently ranked second, winning 18% of the industry's market share, but it is eager to expand its position in the $ 100 billion market. Therefore, the company has managed to find ways to make Azure useful in a range of different industries.
 
Last April, Microsoft acquired a company called Express Logic, which focused on RTOS for IoT and edge devices. After being acquired by Microsoft, the company became a leading provider of IoT digital infrastructure tools. With the support of the company's technology, the Redmond, Washington-based technology giant has indeed developed a set of cloud software for embedded devices.
